Doctor Who Wednesday: DW Halloween Costumes

It is October and Halloween will be creeping its way into our households slowly but surely. I know that Halloween, although not typically celebrated in other parts of the world (aside from North America) is being picked up and practiced in all sorts of places now. I mean, what is not to like about dressing up as someone else and getting candy for it? Most of us dress up vintage every chance we get. Although it is more of a lifestyle choice for many of us, it is still super fun to don a costume of a Princess Lea or Wonder Woman or Snow White once in a while, right?

To continue my countdown and celebration of 50 fabulous years of Doctor Who, I found some costume inspiration as well as a few great items that one could add to their DW costumes for this October 31st!

Even if you don't dress up for Halloween, DW costumes could be used for some sort of DW celebration or for DW conventions.

Doctor Who Wednesday: Blink/The Weeping Angels

One of my favorite episode of Series Three with Doctor #10 has to be Blink. Like Love & Monsters, The Doctor isn't in it very much but I love the introduction of The Weeping Angels.

I mean statues of angels that move when you blink! That idea was marvelous. I have to see they do spook me and it takes a lot to spook me. 

For Series Three the Doctor is traveling with Martha Jones, who is brilliant! She is super smart and although not as beloved as Rose by fans of DW, after re-watching Series Three-I think she was the first companion in a while to be close to an equal in intellect and bravery to The Doctor. 

In this episode set in 2007, a girl named Sally Sparrow (Carey Mulligan) enters an abandoned house to practice her photography. Before she knows it she is thrust into a mysterious adventure involving time travel, time disturbances, a cutie named Billy, a key, and some DVD's.

This episode leaves you following Sally's every step and before you know it the Weeping Angels have crept up on you! Don't....BLINK!

A look inspired by the Weeping Angels involves pieces in various shades of grey with some sort of Grecian look to it.

I scored this cute dress via Ebay here and knew it would be perfect. Best part is that its a great dress for the fall or spring-I love it! I added a fantastic Grecian inspired headband from Modcloth called a "silver of hope" headband, a pair of angel wing earrings from Etsy here, and a belt called a "sasha samba belt" from Modcloth as well. I LOVE this belt! 

So do I make a fierce Weeping Angel? Remember, don't blink!

I thought I would give the Weeping Angels a nod and did their famous pose, hands covering their faces...that is until you BLINK!

Doctor Who Wednesday: Love & Monsters/Doctor #10

David Tennant. Yes. I just typed that. I know so many DW fans just adore Tennant's tenth Doctor. And I cannot blame them one bit.

The tenth Doctor's first companion of course was Rose Tyler. Towards the end of this second series something shifts in the programming and we follow the adventures and story of one Elton Pope (played by Marc Warren). This episode of Love & Monsters is a joy to watch because we get to see The Doctor from the view of someone not connected to him personally but still longing to know who he truly is.

Elton's life has been touched by The Doctor but he cannot seem to remember why. He finds a group of friends whose lives have also been affected by The Doctor in one way or another. Their friendship tightens and they even form a band, just for a moment anyway. Until the mysterious Victor Kennedy shows up and decides that this group talking about The Doctor isn't doing enough to find him.

Things seem normal as the search for The Doctor begins but that is when we find out who Victor Kennedy really is and why the members of the group LINDA (London Investigation 'N' Detective Agency) are disappearing.

Elton does find The Doctor and also finds out why he remembers him from his childhood. Sadly, all the members of the group LINDA got absorbed by a Abzorbaloff (Victor Kennedy), a creature who absorbs his prey.

Tennant's Doctor wore snappy pin striped suits, usually brown or blue with matching converse sneakers. What is not to love?! The colors blue and burgundy run rampant in Doctor Who episodes of the "new" series. Same goes for Tennant's usual outfits.

I couldn't wait to figure out an an outfit inspired by the 10th Doctor. He was so snazzy, clever, fun, very logical and a adventurer at heart.

Many a time he wore black trimmed glasses so I couldn't resist to snatch me a pair. I don't use glasses just yet so the pair I am wearing are a faux pair. I love them though! What do you think?

I wore my eShakti vintage inspired pleated skirt in navy blue. I paired it up with a vintage blouse purchased via Etsy and a cropped navy cardigan from Old Navy (purchased at just 15.00!). I added a little burgundy via my earrings purchased at my new favorite shop, Maurices for just 8.99.

I absolutly love this outfit and I think it is my favorite DW inspired one so far. Don't forget to take a peak at my Rose Tyler and Doctor #9 outfits as well.

Doctor Who Wednesday: Shop Doctor Who

Every person who is a fan of something collects. Whether it is shoes, books, hair clips, compacts, it doesn't matter. If you love something or adore something to bits there is a high chance you would want to have something that reminds you of that passion.

Since this year marks the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, there are oodles of items floating around cyberspace for every Whovian to get their hands on.

These items were found on Amazon (US version) and I will admit that I would love have just about all of these things. I imagine myself drinking tea out of my Dalek Victory mug while watching an episode from the blue-ray gift set. All the while munching on some Jelly Babies (the 4th Doctor's favorite treat) as I text my friends on my DW covered phone. Not to mention to read those amazing books I found that seem to carry outstanding amounts of information about the show and they also have rave reviews from readers. Oh and let's not forget a DW cookbook-gah! And I just had to add the gas mask as it reminded me of one of my favorite episodes from the "new" series.

So, feast your eyes on these beauties and think about what you would like to add to your DW collection!

Doctor Who Wednesday: The Doctor Dances/Doctor 9

Last week I shared with you one of my favorite episodes from Doctor Who from Series One called The Empty Child and showed you how you can create your very own Rose Tyler outfit. 

This week I will continue my love for The Empty Child episode with focus on the 9th Doctor. When Christopher Eccleston  come into the DW Universe when the show was on what seemed to be a indefinite hiatus from 1996 to 2004. Then came the reboot of the show and Eccleston proved to be an outstanding Doctor.

There was a major shift in the story line though. The 9th Doctor tells us of a Time War between his people (the Time Lords) and the Daleks (his arch-enemies). In that Time War he became the last known living Time Lord. It also left this Doctor teeming with anger, rage, frustration, and deep loneliness.

This Doctor was different, different in many ways from the eight before him but yet still the same. Still hungry for an adventure, still energetic, still brave, still exploring the world and time endlessly.

In The Doctor Dances, after he solves the mystery as to why people's faces are breaking out into gas masks, he has this incredibly joy-filled moment when he used the nanogenes (think mini robotic doctors) and heals everyone who was infected.

After suffering so much loss from the Time War, The Doctor has a moment where he saves lives instead of loses them. Eccleston's protrayl of the Doctor is  FANTASTIC!

You too can dress like the 9th Doctor! He wore a very, very simple ensemble. It consisted of a pair of black jeans, a jumper (sweater), and a black leather jacket. He used his sonic screwdriver many times but he didn't have any gimmick or love of bow-ties or striped scarves.

My outfit was made up of a sold black belted poplin skirt by eShakti. I love, love, love this skirt. It fit perfectly and is VERY true to size. It also comes with a matching belt and has two side pockets! I mean, who doesn't love a pocket with their skirt??!!

My blouse was from Eddie Bauer but I purchased it gently used via Ebay. I love the color burgundy (or brick) but it is a hard color to find. I noticed that many, and I mean many, outfits wore on DW included the color burgundy in it. I think it is a fabulous color for fall/winter. Don't you?

I finished off my outfit with my jacket that I found on Amazon (it also has a hood that I adore!). I included the link in my last DW post but if you want it again this is it here. I wore simple silver loop earrings and a necklace of a wolf purchased on Etsy here. One of the themes of Series One was "Bad Wolf" so I think it was a perfect addition to the outfit.

Doctor Who Wednesdays: The Empty Child/Rose Tyler

Like many fans of Doctor Who, I have a few favorite episodes that I can watch over and over. I have at least two favorite episodes for each of the new series and a nice handful of favorites from the classic seasons. 

Everyone has a favorite Doctor and favorite companions. In the end I like them all, truly I do. But I have to say Doctor #9 holds a special place in my heart because in my opinion the performance Christopher Eccleston gave to that character brought the series back to life.

The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances are my top two favorites from Series One. I think a big part of it is because it is set in the 1940's during World War II in London. That is just the  backdrop of the story that centers around a young girl who is running from a child with a gas mask who keeps calling for his mummy. Problem is that everyone he touches becomes altered with their own permanent gas mask faces. In the midst of this horror we get to meet for the first time Captain Jack Harkness, played by John Barroman. His character is flirty, clever, smart, and a man of action, not to mention incredibly handsome (swoon!).

Doctor #9's companion is named Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper. She starts out as this young, average girl who sort of goes through the day without any purpose or deeper meaning and ends up (through mere circumstance or was it?) traveling the stars and seeing life through the Doctor's eyes. To me, by the time The Empty Child episode comes on, Rose is really comfortable and confidant in her role as his companion. She also feels more confidant in herself and her own capabilities.

When the Doctor and Rose land in the middle of the London Blitz, she is wearing this simple but important outfit that I think plays in nicely with the episode. Technically Rose is about nineteen in that episode so like every young woman she wears comfortable yet hip clothing, She isn't terribly stylish but in this episode she tries hard to make her Union Jack t-shirt work for her. I just thought it was so youthful and poignant to wear something like this for an episode set in WWII.

Before I share with you my Rose Tyler outfit I want to share with you some of my DW fashion rules:

1. You will see in every DW fashion post colors that I picked out from a character's particular outfit. I will either take inspiration from that color palette, attempt to duplicate the outfit, or take inspiration from the outfit/character/episode.
2. I will allow myself to repeat pieces whenever I post a DW outfit post.
3. I will work with what I have in my wardrobe.
4. If I do buy something for my outfit post it HAS to be something that I will wear again. So that means I may not wear a specific cut of a dress or color because it is something I would never wear again minus the post.
5. Lastly, I will wear a blend of modern and vintage pieces and sometimes just wear modern or just wear vintage. 

I will be following these rules every time I do a fashion post inspired by a film/tv show.

Fashion hasn't always been a fun subject for me but expressing my fashion tastes and choices through the inspiration of a show or film has been super fun for me to do. It has made it so much fun that I am actually enjoying shopping in modern stores again. 

So without further adieu I give you Bunny as Rose Tyler in The Empty Child:

There you have it...the Latina version of Rose Tyler hehe Like I said this outfit is simple and two most important pieces of the outfit were the t-shirt and the hairstyle that she had. Since my hair is wavy, I set my hair to have some softer curls unlike Rose's messy look. That look just wouldn't work for me. But I did like putting my hair up in the front like she had it. I am the sort of girl who doesn't like her hair in her face too much LOL

The rest of the outfit was a pair of good old fashioned blue jeans, the Union Jack t-shirt, a black jacket and some chips. Chips? Oh, I mean fries. Just kidding. But chips (fries) are Rose's favorite snack so I figured I throw in a yummy prop for my shoot.

The jeans were mine from Old Navy, the Union Jack t-shirt was purchased on Ebay here, the black synthetic jacket was purchased on Amazon here, and lastly the UK themed bracelet was scored at Claire's Acessories on sale. I wore it for the fun of it. I love my jacket and you will see me wear it again. I needed a casual jacket and I am not too fond of leather so synthetic leather suited me real well.

There you have it. Some DW fashion fun. Hope you enjoyed it because I sure did. It was a blast. I cannot wait to post the rest. This series won't be entirely dedicated to DW fashion but you will see it often enough.
